Transfer from Valley Zoo to Henry Villas Zoo

Sha-Lei the red panda has been transferred from Valley Zoo in Edmonton, Canada to Henry Vilas Zoo in Wisconsin, USA. Now that Sha-Lei is 18 months old it is time for her to move as part of the breeding programme. Sha-Lei has been paired with Chang Tan who has been living at Henry Vilas Zoo since 2007. It will be some time before Sha-Lei is viewable to the public as she needs time to settle into her new home.

Sha-Lei and Chang Tan are two of the few red pandas of the subspecies Ailurus fulgen styani living in America and hence they are quite special.

Valley Zoo has had lots of success at breeding red pandas and currently house five including She-Lei's parents Koko and Lala. It is important that offspring are transferred elsewhere to help other zoos and increase diversity throughout captive red pandas.

Birth at Dudley Zoo

It is estimated that Yogi was born 4 months ago, at which point it is believed he weighed about 200g.

This is the first birth of a red panda cub at Dudley Zoo. The zoo received its first red panda, Yang, in 2003.
